History of SRFL

SRFL is the abbreviation of Sekinan Research Field of Languagewhich was foiunded in 2003 at Hakuba, Nagano, Japan. In 2004 Its base moved to Tokyo for more deepening the research activity. In these days the writing style of papers was greatly influenced by Luvig Wittgenstein's TRACTATUS LOGICO-PHILOSOPHCUS 1922 and the motif of study was originated from Edward Sapir's Language An Introduction to the Study of Speech 1921.

SRFL started originally as a study library named Sekinan Library at Tachikawa, Tokyo in 1986 .From that time on,  several sites have been made  for the various research activity, In learning days of 1970s, Kurt Godel and Nicolas Bourbaki were strong admiration of keeping the study.

In 1980s, the heart of activity was study of Chinese ancient hieroglph influenced by the Qing Dynasty's scholar WANG Guowei. But last time of 80s, research turned to the basic factors of language, gradually putting language universals in shape.
  •
In 1990s, Great turn came to th study. Linguistic Circle of Prague in 1920s and its member Sergej Karcevskij definitely opened the direction for the vast and ambiguous approach to the study of language universals. All the hints were given from CHINO Eiichi who had studied on the Slavs at Carrel University between 1958 and 1967. I first met him at his Russian class in 1969. He was 37 and I was 21.
  •
Since 2000s language universals has became the core theme of study using and arrangring the contemporary resuls of mathematics, esdpetially algebraic geometry that sufficiently reflects the intuitive and concrete images of thinking on complexed language's phenomena. In 2008 Zoho site sekinanlogos was started up for mathematical expression.

In 2015, Sekinan Tokyo has started as the portal site of Sekinan's some 30 year activity. SRFL Note is also active for the working site of Sekinan Tokyo.

Publishing Revolution

Publishing Revolution

TANAKA Akio

I read Pamela Pfiffner's INSIDE THE PUBLISHING REVOLUTION : THE ADOBE STORY, 2003.

"From 1982 - 1984: Laying the Foundation / The Early Years
When Geschke met Warnock in 1978, the two felt an instant rapport. But over lunch they also discovered they had similar experiences and shared values.
From BizStats: 1982
John Warnock and Chuck Geschke found Abobe Systems with $2.5 million in seed money from Hambrecht & Quist."

Thus publishing revolution has started by the two. If there be not this revolution, probably my representation to the public will not be done as smooth as now. Because my concepts on language are rather strange and the road to cultivate is so hard to open to the wider world.

I first had my personal computer in 1987. The computer was Sharp's X1 which used 8-bit microprocessor Zilog Z80 which was sold from 1976. The operating system was CP/M and storage media was 8-inch floppy disc that capacity was 175 kB (at 1972)- 500 kB (at 1976).

At that time printer was dot-printer and only can be printed out alphabet, figures and Japanese Katakana (the square form of Japanese syllabary). In those days I read a book on the printing-out from computers published by a authority of Japanese technology.

I clearly remembered the impression on the book in which the author asserted that printing out the Chinese characters were impossible for the figural complexity of the letters. Oh how fast the impossibility has been reversed. Warnock and Gaschke has accomplished the revolution on publication or more wider on human's representation to the world. Really fantastic and infinite thanks for the two respectable persons and the successors after the two.
