Father, Hills and Bonsai / 28 July 2013

Father, Hills and Bonsai

TANAKA Akio

My father liked nature of homeland and frequently went to the coppice in the Sayama Hills that was spread at the west area of Tokyo. The Hills are also called "the Green Island in Tokyo".
He liked the growing of natural tiny trees in the garden and the trees were gradually grown up to the fine Bonsai. He thus made various Bonsai in the garden. The main are Japanese azaleas that bloomed splendid flowers in May. The month really became the flower kingdom of azalea. He also liked the Bonsai of zelkova trees, that were I liked the most and at where probably father’s talent to Bonsai was appealed in the finest style, I have thought so far.
