Meaning

At some point, I started thinking about meaning. By meaning, I mean something like this:
When you go out after finishing your chores, you realize that you forgot to pat your dog on the head on the way out. The dog may be fast asleep, having forgotten about the gesture you always make to it. However, it may still be awake, having remembered that you didn't do it.
I have someone to meet today, and if I go home now, I won't be able to make it on time.
I stop and think: should I go on or should I go home? Normally, I would put aside the little thing my dog did and carry on going out.
However, at this time, I choose to go home first, even if it means being a little late and causing some social inconvenience.
To others, it may not seem like a very meaningful thing to do, but at the time, it made sense to me.
Simply put, the distinction here might be said to be one in which value is more social and meaning is more personal.
To put it more simply, sometimes people move from a social existence to an individual existence by performing a meaningful act, even if it is worthless. To put it dramatically, it is a small act of rebellion against society. However, I sometimes think that this small act of rebellion may provide at least me with an opportunity to change the current state of human beings and society, and to create a world in which humans can live more easily.
